UKG Early Subtraction Worksheets

Take away objects, cross out pictures, count what remains, and solve simple subtraction equations within 10.

Practice that builds confidence

Make taking away concrete

These UKG subtraction activities make taking away visible. Children begin with a group, remove or cross out part of it, count what remains, and connect the action to a subtraction sentence.

Give the learner a small set of counters and tell a simple story: “There were seven mangoes and two were eaten.” Physically remove two, then count the objects left. Repeat with drawings by crossing out the amount taken away. Introduce the minus sign only after the child can describe the action.

A parent and child building confidence with printable worksheet practice

Develop careful habits

Ask children to begin with the first number, remove exactly the second number, and count the remainder once. Parents can practise with blocks, spoons, or toy cars. Teachers can use subtraction stories, number lines, and partner demonstrations before independent worksheets. Include zero examples so learners see that taking away none keeps the quantity unchanged and taking away all leaves zero.
